The Value of a Brand Domain Name — Priceless
As consumers, we have put our trust in domain names — the online ambassadors for our favorite brands, from Vogue to Home Depot to Ford. Domain names may include a trademark name or other identifier familiar to that brand. Unfortunately, the bad guys have successfully learned how to abuse this trust for financial gain.
In fact, cybercriminals have turned this abuse, from simple cybersquatting to buying bulk domains for sophisticated targeted attacks, into a multi-billion dollar industry. Today, virtually all cybercrime (phishing, malware, the sale of controlled substances, knock-off merchandise, online child materials, more) involves IPs and/or domain names.
This week kicks off the 13th annual National Cyber Security Awareness Month. While well-intentioned, this yearly reminder is no match for the headlines we see, day in and day out, about the latest breach. Both users and organizations have a role in protecting their privacy and confidential information.
Not sure where to start? Begin by protecting the crown jewel of your organization and the center of trust for your customers — your domain names. To protect unsuspecting consumers from fraud as well as their own businesses from devastating breaches, organizations must remember that DNS security is critical to their risk mitigation program.
At Farsight, we have innovated new ways to protect these crown jewels — and keep your business thriving. To learn more about how our solution can help you, send us a note at [email protected].
